Chicago Is Talking About . . .
THE Chris White Trio returned to Winter’s Jazz Club on December 3 for its annual musical performances of Vince Guaraldi’s A Charlie Brown Christmas, and the trio is scheduled for two more dates at the venue. The group––Chris White on piano, Sean Jacobi on bass and Ryan Jacobi on drums––returns to the club for performances on December 17 (two shows) and December 22 (three shows). The yearly performances have become a popular part of the traditional events that are associated with the holiday season. The A Charlie Brown Christmas album, music from the long-running TV show, is played in its entirety, and other Guaraldi tunes are included as well. Joffrey Ballet's 'The Nutcracker'
The Music Of 'A Charlie Brown Christmas'
THE Joffrey Ballet’s reimaged classic, The Nutcracker, continues at the Auditorium Theatre through December 29 as a much-anticipated part of the holiday season, but this will be the final production before The Nutcracker moves to the Lyric Opera House with the start of the 2020-2021 season. The Auditorium was the site for the world premiere of Tony Award-winning choreographer Christopher Wheeldon’s 2016 revision of the holiday classic. This new adaptation of the timeless Christmas ballet is set during the historic 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and centers on Marie, a young girl whose mother works at the fair. On the night before Christmas, a magical nutcracker guides Marie through a beautiful dreamland based on the World’s Fair and the many people and places represented there. The ballet is set to Tchaikovsky’s classic score and features live music performed by the Chicago Philharmonic. Single tickets start at $35 and are available at The Joffrey Ballet’s official box office, located in the lobby of Joffrey Tower, 10 E. Randolph Street. They also are available at the Auditorium Theatre box office, by telephone at 312/386-8905, or online at www.joffrey.org.
IN the spirit of the holiday season, the Chicago West Community Music Center (CWCMC) will present a holiday music concert on December 15 at the Garfield Park Conservatory, beginning at 3 p.m. The CWCMC Orchestra, staff, students and special guests will perform favorite classical, jazz and popular songs of the season, and it includes a “Carol Sing-A-Long” and other holiday favorites. This event is free and open to the public and is presented in partnership by CWCMC and the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance. RSVPs are encouraged but not required. CWCMC’s mission is to harness the creative potential of Chicago youths through music education, artistic and cultural expression, and by fostering positive relationships across neighborhood lines.
