Movie and television star Barry Shabaka Henley will star as Louis Armstrong in the Midwest premiere of Satchmo at the Waldorf, running through February 7 at Hyde Park's Court Theatre. Armstrong, known for his mastery on the trumpet and cornet, also crooned standards such as "Hello, Dolly!" and "What a Wonderful World," making him one of jazz's most legendary figures. The story, set in 1971, focuses on Satchmo after playing a set in the Empire Room of the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York, and backstage he begins to reminisce about his incredible career. The Court Theatre presentation is part of an ambitious Louis Armstrong Festival, with varied events scheduled in January and February that will include theater, art exhibits, music and film in a wide range of communities. Comedian/actor Tracy Morgan, rebounding from a terrible vehicle accident, is back on tour and makes a February 5 stop at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino.
