One of the popular activities surrounding the celebration of Halloween is the "Arts in the Dark" parade, which includes a wide variety of participants. 
  GOBLINS, ghouls, ghosts, trick-or-treating, costume parties and various other activities combine during the observance of Halloween, which has become one of the most celebrated days in Chicagoland and beyond. Whether it’s parades, ghost tours, haunted houses and beyond, there’s something for everyone who wants to participate, ranging from the frightening to the family-friendly during the spookiest time of the year. The following is a collection of some of the events that will highlight the celebration, which (in many areas) now extends before and after October 31. 
Arts In The Dark
Kick off Halloween festivities a few days early during the Arts in the Dark parade, which combines performers, puppets, bands, lanterns and floats through the streets of Chicago. The procession begins at State Street and Lake Street and moves south to Van Buren.

Titanic Masquerade: Pier Pressure Chicago Halloween Yacht Party (four decks, two DJs, two floors of music). From 11 p.m. until 2 a.m.

Rock the Yacht: Halloween Midnight Yacht Party, Spirit of Chicago

Wrigleyville Halloween Crawl, including a buffet and costume contests at 7 p.m.

Wicker Park Halloween Bar Crawl, includes a pre-party, bar crawl, and after-party on this year’s Halloween beer tour of Wicker Park from 4–10 p.m.

HipHop Halloween Party/Show, Subterranean, 2011 W. North Avenue

Haunted Halloween Ball at Congress Plaza Hotel. Dress your best at this Halloween affair at 9 p.m., complete with a B96 DJ.

The Vampire Ball at SK Sky Bar from 9 p.m to 3 a.m. Pay the $10 online fee for express entry and a free drink!

Halloween Masquerade at the Lyric Opera House. The Lyric Opera invites professionals in costume to enjoy dancing and an open bar, beginning  at 8 p.m.

Freak Show Halloween at Virgin Hotels Chicago, 203 N. Wabash Avenue, where surprises galore present themselves, starting at 8 p.m.
The Nightmare at Navy Pier Presents: The Haunted Halloween Ball at the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier’s main ballroom.

Spooky Zoo. Come in costume for the alternative to trick-or-treating, Lincoln Park Zoo

Haunted Halloween Ball at Congress Plaza Hotel, where you can spend the night dancing and celebrating in a building that many have claimed to be haunted.

Logan Square Halloween Parade, Illinois Centennial Monument, marches south on Kedzie Boulevard to Fullerton before looping back to Lula Café.

Experience an authentic Day of the Dead celebration at the National Museum of Mexican Art, including live music, face painting and art activities transform the museum and nearby Harrison Park into a festive gathering place similar to one found in Mexico on Día de los Muertos.

Shedd Aquarium, pop-up animal encounters and other unexpected activities, Shedd Aquarium

Northalsted Halloween Parade. Don’t miss this unique costume event in Boystown, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Disney in Concert: Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. On October 31 and November 1 at the Auditorium Theatre, hear “This is Halloween!” performed on the holiday it honors when the Chicago Philharmonic performs Danny Elfman's classic score at this special Disney in Concert engagement. The orchestra will dress up and play along with the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. Participants are encouraged to arrive early (and in costume) to enjoy trick-or-treating activities and a costume contest in the theater's lobby.
